Joe didn't always have the Lucy "M" and began with a few more modest types of boats.

At our camp on Lake Onaping we had the "steel boat" powered by the dependable 18 horse-powered Evinrude motor. Many a time one of the kids broke the shear pin on the motor when we ran aground on the shoal near an island close to our camp. "OOPS" Dad seemed to have an endless supply of these motor parts and was able to fix the problem with not too much swearing. This photo shows Joe pulling sister Nancy waterskiing around the bay---looks like he's having a heck of a time! Kind of a Clark Gable look-a-like don't you think----"Frankly, my dear I don't give a dam!"

  2. Never mind the shear pins! How about the motor falling off the back of the boat into the water...twice.. once when Dad was driving - he pulled the motor back up by the gasline, and once when I was driving - I forgot how we got it out that time.
