Captain Joe

Some of my favourite memories of spending time with Dad had to do with boats, with him as the Captain, of course. He took us fishing when we were kids and I remember when he built a wooden boat in the garage at our house on Bancroft Drive near Coniston. He was working at Romford Canadian Pacific Railway station and the boat was his winter project. I remember being out on a lake in a storm and all three of the older girls (sorry, Nancy, you weren't there and Jim, you were even more remote!) were huddled under the bow of that boat to keep from being soaked. It didn't leak!

The "Lucy M" was Dad's best boat ever. How could it not be? It had to live up to its name. :-)
It was from the "Lucy M" that I caught the biggest fish of my life, a 22-pound salmon one beautiful evening in Providence Bay. Thank you, Dad, for that unforgettable experience. (I had a bruise near my bellybutton for days afterwards from the fishing pole sticking into me as I reeled that sucker in!)
